Today, The Chronicle of Higher Education has an article that I contributed about universities’ struggles to save their audiovisual collections. [If you’re not personally a subscriber, you can become one, or may be able to access the Chronicle site through an institutional or public library.]
It includes anecdotes about what archivists found on campuses. Some of it was glorious: amazing collections of huge variety. Some was not pretty: collections held in completely inadequate conditions.
If you work in an archival or curatorial role, and have war stories to tell, I’d like to hear them, and include them in an article here on Moving Image Archive News. They could be amusing or instructive, and might convey to readers how urgent the challenge to preserve the moving-image heritage has become. They could also convey to readers just how rich and varied the moving image holdings of academic and other kinds of institutions are
