Here’s an event in Seattle to emulate, in your home town. On May 14 2011 – all free of charge – archivists and museum professionals will answer questions from members of the public interested in learning how to better preserve their personal and family archival materials – photographs, books, movies, and other materials including digital files that are not as stable and permanent as many people assume – platforms, soft and hard, are ever-evolving, leaving our treasured digits behind. The program includes professional-advice sessions, workshops on photo preservation and oral history, tours of the National Archives Pacific Alaska regional facility, and other activities. It takes place at the National Archives and Records Administration for the Pacific Alaska Region, in Seattle, between 10am and 2pm on Saturday May 14 2011. More details, including directions of how to get there, are online.
